BIOGRAPHY

Genevieve Swifte is a visual artist who's work is concerned with the fragility of the natural world. Her technique involves drawing with metal, a tradition that has a long history from Ancient Greece to the Renaissance. Her drawings are subtle, elusive and reflective, images appear, shift and vanish as the exhibition space is moved through and as the work responds to the light that illuminates it. Others hover weightlessly like a cloud or a shadow on vast, white expanses of paper or upon the bare wall itself. In October 2010 she will be travelling to Northwest Greenland to partake in the Upernavik Artist In Residence program. Here within the Arctic Circle she will draw inspiration from the changing quality of light and the presence of ice within the arctic landscape. This residancy is generously supported by the ACT Government and by dontions made through the Australia Cultural Fund.
